YK Hong’s 365 Release: Day 355

I have a black leather belt. It never fit me nor has it ever been used to hold up one’s pants. I bought it long ago for the specific purpose of the sound it makes when you fold it in half and snap it.

When you’re already outside of the gender sexuality compartments of societal norms, every exploratory practice is valid ground. Yes, I’m talking about sex (also see Day 330). It’s a good hurricane day contemplation, no? This entry may be too much information for some folks, so be forewarned. And how unfortunate for you.

Using muiltiple senses during sex is an age-old practice, incorporated often unconsciously. Just as I am intentional about this 365 Release practice, I am often intentional about taking advantage of the senses at all times. For instance, during sex, olfactory and aural mechanisms can enhance every experience (e.g. scented candles and music). Because I was never hesitant to try anything at least twice (i.e. my motto) I have been able to explore the most elusive angles of the erotic and sex. As many may recognize, this involves innovation, a handle on language, and a passion for debauchery. All of which I have in copious amounts. Perhaps because I am also an avid literature head and a story teller, I’ve additionally developed an extraordinarily creative capacity to narrate fantasies.

I’ve never followed convention, whether about my radical politics, challenging institutional oppression, the way I look, my sexuality, my work and love. So it makes sense that everything I do has an element of creativity to it. I am an artist after all. The breadth of my practices in bed is a prodigious one, spanning from vanilla to kinkiest of kink. It mostly depends on where my partner wants to explore, because that is partially what drives me, the desire of the person I am with.

So too, unconventionally, a belt is never just a belt. It is also a sound maker. Again, I’m not going into too much detail further than that because some things are meant to stay in the bedroom.

Today, I’m letting go of this belt, which I kept because it was implacably forgotten at the very bottom of my box of goodies (that’s another story for another day). Use your imagination. That’s what I do.

For those who have been asking how they can continue to be a part of my journey even after this project, you can subscribe to my monthly email newsletter here, where I share life lessons, contemplations of awesomeness and updates on projects such as this 365 Release and much more.

[I created the 365 Release Project to practice non-attachment, letting go and change by giving away 1 thing a day for 1 year. The background, vision and guidelines to the 365 RELEASE project are here. The running list of everything I have released is here.]
