The wood used in my work is sourced from the floors and foundations of Brownstone buildings in the rapidly gentrifying Bedford Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY, where I reside and create. By reclaiming the jettisoned raw material, being replaced for newer floors and structures, I am also reclaiming the history of race and transition over time. I deconstruct the material and reconstruct it into a piece that has been given new purpose and meaning.
