When Yoon invoked martial law<\/strong> on December 3rd, it evoked the traumatic violence and massacres of authoritarianism<\/strong> of the 1980s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In another hearkening to this history of suppressing democracy movements, the conservative right Yoon supporters have donned white hard hats<\/strong> under the Anti-Communist Youth League as \ubc31\uace8\ub2e8 (\u201cWhite Skull Squad<\/strong>\u201d).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is, in fact, a terrifying resurrection<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The \u201cWhite Skull Squad<\/strong>\u201d is the EXACT name authoritarians used in the 80s and 90s as part of brutally, and often fatally, suppressing democracy movements and organizers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yoon is supported by the incoming Trump administration. The U.S. will drive deeper the wedge it planted when it divided Korea in the first place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We must be prepared<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our memories of our past are long. Korean resistance movements are deeply embedded in our bodies and minds<\/strong>. May they keep us fighting and protected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
