The US calling the Korean War the “Forgotten war” is so colonial and imperialist, because I can guarantee you that no Korean has forgotten it.
The Korean War in southern Korea is called 6.25 전쟁, or the June 25th War, to mark the day the conflict surged.
In northern Korea it is called 조국해방전쟁, which means “Country Liberation War.”
In China it is referred to as 抗美援朝战争 or “Resisting America and Assisting Korea War.”
All of those are so telling , aren’t they?
And here we have the U.S. calling it the “Forgotten war.” Certainly the U.S. wants people to forget its own brutal role in the genocide of millions of Koreans and its responsibility in the division of Korea.
What the U.S. calls the “Vietnam War” is called Kháng chiến chống Mỹ, or the “Resistance War Against the United States” in Vietnam.
What the U.S. calls the “Secret War” was a brutal U.S. attack on Laos to control local government, which made it the most heavily bombed country per capita in history. It is definitely not a secret to the Laotian people.
In order to justify invading other countries for political and economic reasons, the U.S. uses the classic colonial narrative of positioning itself as the “Great White Hope” swooping in to save these “poor unfortunate” countries, completely removing itself from any culpability or responsibility.
The countries that the U.S. is purportedly “helping” by going to war, these countries view it as the U.S. invading them, because that’s exactly what is actually happening.
Remember to get your history from different sources OUTSIDE of the corrupt U.S.-centric narrative.
What does your country call the wars where the U.S. has invaded you?
