There are many white people who actually thought that racism would be over once Obama became president.
There are so many organizations that hire Black, Indigenous, People of Color, and think, ”Yay, we no longer have racism at our organization, or “Look, we can no longer do anything racist.”
And then there are those that believe if you hire BIPOC cops, then the police will no longer be racist.
No matter how many People of the Global Majority are hired, pushed in, elected, or represented, nothing is going to change unless you change the system itself.
Because the system itself was built as a white dominant racist, patriarchal, colonial structure, no matter how many People of the Global Majority you have, even if it’s half, even if it’s all, if the powers of white dominance, patriarchy, and colonialism are still in place, then nothing has changed.
Even though we are People of the Global MAJORITY, white dominance is the system of oppression in place that privileges white people. It’s not about numbers or individualism.
This is why the system of white dominance cannot be reformed. It has to be dismantled entirely.
When white dominant racist institutions place People of the Global Majority into positions, without addressing the systemic racism of the institution itself, then all they are doing is what they have always done, which is to see People of the Global Majority as bodies.
People of the Global Majority are not past, present, or future bodies for white dominant consumption.
