I will never forget the white girl, when I was 7, who whitesplained to me that I was from Hong Kong because my last name is Hong.

Her last name was Zimmerman and she was full on white womaning to me as a 7-year-old.

We were both 7. She was trying to fight with me about it. She went around telling all the kids in the space that I was from Hong Kong. And she kept white screaming, “HONG KONG, HONG KONG, HONG KONG!”

Yes, she was pulling her eyes back.

And yes, this happened all the time.

In case you thought it takes a while to be impacted by white dominance and supremacy as kids, it doesn’t. It happens early, and continues for the rest of your life.

The only way to remedy it is to never stop working against it. Ever.

I’m from the land of the people whose culture is one of the quickest to be gentrified by white culture at the moment, and is STILL being colonized and occupied by the U.S.
