Righteous Rage

May my heart never recover so that I will revolt forever. I’ve been saying this a long time now. But the past few weeks in many areas around the world including in Palestine, Sudan, DRC, Kanaka, Hawai’i, and Ayiti, have been going through a culmination of aggression and escalation around the world.

When I say, “May my heart never recover so that I will revolt forever,” I truly hope that my heart never recovers.

In many cultures of the Global Majority anger and rage are not negative sentiments. Imperialist western culture teaches you that anger is a bad emotion that you should try to suppress and avoid at all costs.

It is also colonial thinking that makes you believe that you can only have one emotion at a time. That is simply not sure. I experience joy as fully as I experience rage, often simultaneously.

It is imperialism that colonizes our minds, our emotions, our hearts to try to get us to erase our rage. But anger and rage can be righteous. Every human being experiences anger and rage and it is more important to acknowledge them than to try to erase them.

Don’t let imperialism try to erase or eradicate your rage. In Korea there’s a concept of Han, of embracing our sorrow, anger, and rage as part of our cultural identity and even as something that can drive us forward to fight for liberation.

If you feel the anger and rage, which you should be, do not let Empire try to erase it. Rage can be righteous.

MAY MY HEART NEVER RECOVER SO THAT I WILL REVOLT FOREVER.
