Kimchi Day

It’s 김치 Day around the US as well.

Today is 김치 Kimchi Day.

Kimchi is Korea,
Korea is Kimchi.

For Kimchi Day I want 김치 to stop being gentrified and co-opted by other Asian countries, by western countries, by your neighborhood white person, by Whole Foods.

I want sanctions against north Korea lifted, an end to military war exercises by the U.S. in south Korea, and the U.S. military out of Korea while we’re at it.

I want people to stop telling me they love kimchi as soon as they find out I’m Korean.

I want babies and children that were stolen, abducted, and removed from the motherland to always have Korea around them abundantly, through the culture, through the people, through our food.

I want people to stop calling that thing they pickled, kimchi.

I want my family to be able to again visit their old villages in north Korea while they are still alive.

The kids that used to bully me and ostracize me for eating 김치, you are adults like myself now, I want you to remember that as you eat 김치 now.

You will not steal our culture.
You will not steal our babies and children.
You will not steal our land.

Kimchi is Korea,
Korea is Kimchi.
