Many countries (and U.S. states) globally experience oppressive air quality on a daily basis. In Korea, we are often alerted that some days we should not spend outside, or to wear our masks if we must.
Living in NYC, I have always marveled at the privilege of the air quality. Some days I am shocked that anyone can take that for granted.
I always knew that the warnings would eventually reach across the globe.
It is absolutely deliberate, the correlation of air and water quality to white dominance, colonialism, and capitalism.
Oppression made what was interdependent, what was global, which used to have no borders, into something that is now very individualistic and privatized.
New York City air is Korean air is Flint water.
Everything is completely connected.
And the earth is going to go on with or without us.
It is humanity that isn’t ready for the climate crisis we created.
And at this point, if we as humans, want to move forward, we must understand that interdependence is the only way.
