As someone who comes from a country that has been under ceasefire for the past 70 years, I have a reminder and a wish.
The reminder is a ceasefire is not the end goal. There are other steps and stages that need to take place after that.
Korea, which has been under ceasefire since 1953 has become the center of one of the most heavily militarized areas in the world SINCE the ceasefire and BECAUSE of it.
The technicality of a ceasefire means that war or genocide can still be taking place there’s just a cease or pause in the fire.
Under the pretense of that ceasefire, the US empire has installed multiple puppet administrations in Korea over the decades to control it and has used the ceasefire to justify its trillions in military spending in the region.
Remember that a ceasefire is only one of the many stages that needs to happen, it cannot stop at that.
In Palestine after a ceasefire, a final ceasefire, there must also be an end to the siege, an end to the occupation, and LandBack to Palestinians.
Because the US Empire is one of the parties that holds power around the ceasefire in Palestine, they will most certainly only agree to a ceasefire if they get something in return, just like they did in Korea. Empire might exchange the vote of the ceasefire for more military infrastructure, access, control, land, resources, or a puppet government or administration, but it’s always about profit. So whatever Empire tries to gain from the ceasefire in Palestine, we cannot allow Empire to take anything. That must be part of our plan too.
My wish for Palestine is that it doesn’t end up like Korea suspended in a forever ceasefire and a forever war. That is my reminder and my wish for Palestine.
So you can see, as a Korean it is inevitable that that I fight for the liberation of Palestine with a final ceasefire, an end to the siege, an end to the occupation, and LandBack for Palestinians.
If it can happen in Palestine, it can happen everywhere too.
Free Palestine forever.
