It’s a rainy day today, which means it’s a perfect day to talk about capitalism and why you do work and why you have a job.
Most of us work because we have to, to get things we need to survive and live. Of course, some people don’t work because they don’t need to simply. Some people don’t work because they can’t, and some people don’t work because they don’t want to.
And if you’re lucky sometimes your work aligns with your passions.
The reason why capitalism is so detrimental is not because of solely the money part. Money existed before capitalism. Transactions existed before capitalism.
Capitalism essentially came in and industrialized or corporatized money and transactions.
So what can we do to reclaim this idea of money away from capitalism? A good way to start is to think about what your money story is.
What feeling do you associate with money?
Anxious, angry, happy, sad? What’s your feeling? When was the first time you understood what money was? And what it really meant in your life? And what is your relationship to money now?
What’s your money story? What’s your money journey? Let’s reclaim the narrative of money away from capitalism. This is going to be a series. Let’s start from there.
