BTS, Korean Mandatory Military Service

And it’s happening. BTS is getting conscripted into the mandatory South Korean military service.

A lot of Koreans are understandably unhappy with mandatory military service. And the Korean government has been talking about reforming it for a while. But let’s talk about why Korea has mandatory military service in the first place.

The main reason of course is that Korea is still at war. The armistice between the USSR and the United States to divide up Korea at the 38th parallel technically didn’t end the war. China’s influence and the previous Japanese occupation also had factor into the aggressive division.

Of course, the US is involved. The US oversaw the current military structure for South Korea. And knowing how much the US loves the military, you already know where this is going.

Corrupt politicians in the ROK in conjunction with the United States beefed up the military. And the US created the conditions where now South Korea feels like it’s dependent on the United States, when in fact the US is the one who created the problem in the first place.

See how that works? See where the money and the power flow back and forth?

Outside foreign forces, so the US and USSR, divided up the Koreas. Then militarized the Koreas. Then they created tension between North and South Korea because they of course were using the Koreas as political pawns. Leading to the Korean War between North and South Korea, which then led to the US justifying why it needed more military presence in South Korea, where the US is still stationed today.

And one of the main reasons why North Korea ramps up its military exercises is because the US is aggravating it.

So who benefits here? Obviously the US gains political power and profits. Corrupt ROK politicians. But not the people.

The US needs to stop encouraging militarism in the Koreas, call for peace, and get its own military out of the Koreas now.
