Before we had the term “LGBTQIA+,” there were so many other terms and expressions to convey what we mean when we say LGBTQIA+ today.
Indigenous cultures all over the world have had other ways to express LGBTQIA+ for millennia.
In addition, colonial language is extremely limiting.
So even the way that we are able to talk about being LGBTQIA+ currently, is limiting compared to the actual concepts and ideas.
That is why, as we have been having more of these conversations, the language and how we express who we are and what we are has changed.
And in the future will change again.
Because as a whole, people are beginning to unlearn and decolonize.
Colonization, by definition, limits infinite ways of thinking.
And just as colonialism is tied to transphobia and queerphobia, it is also tied to white dominant culture, ableism, and capitalism.
So if we truly want to live our infinite selves, that means taking down those systems.
So, happy Pride to taking down each and every oppressive system, so that all of us can be the infinite expansive selves that we are.
Let’s do this.
