I have been weeping in waves for many weeks. Mourning the countless lives taken, the elders who never got to return and some who have now gone through Nakba multiple times, babies who will never become children, children who will never become elders, at pasts that will be lost forever and futures that will never happen, the homes and places lost forever, and the scorched earth and scarring of all living beings.
And I have also been weeping from the Palestinian people showing us fully what is happening so that the world can bear witness, at the solidarity of people globally, at people willing to unlearn their entire world and relearn another one, at the dedication of the few for the many, and also of the many for the few, at the world that is shifting and being pushed, and at the people who are giving everything for that to happen.
And we have a chance to change everything right now.
Building on Indigenous teachings and learnings, building on disability organizing for interdependence, building on Black movements giving us language and understanding as a global community, building on our ancestors, building on our now.
We can change EVERYTHING.
The way community is built, how we choose our leaders, the way we address weapons, tools, and tech, how we care for our bodies and minds, even how and why we work, how accessibility can be full, how we can live by our own choices and in our full selves.
This is what I have been fighting for my entire life, holding both the horror and grace of us. And I will continue to fight, weeping, until all of us get free.
And I know there are so many that are willing to do so, too.
I truly believe we can change everything. Here’s to fighting for the liberation of all oppressed people. And until all Empires fall. We, literally the people, have the power to take all of it down.
