Is Empire tracking you? Absolutely. Empire will take ever and any opportunity to track you.
Particularly in this malevolent political climate, period, pregnancy, and health tracking apps have become acutely weaponized. Dating apps that include information about your gender markers or sexuality could also become exploitable.
A wealth of data can be captured from apps including your location, shopping behavior, address book, device information, interests, income, sexuality, location, and more.
Go through each app on your phone and ask yourself the following:
- Do I need this app? If not, logout and delete the app.
- Can I access the content on this app through a browser instead? If yes, logout and delete the app.
- Can I make the settings more private and secure? For instance, can I limit the app’s access to my location, photos, or voice? If so, do it.
- Can I delete it now and download it only if and when I need it. If so, do that.
There are many more security and privacy settings that can be made for each app, but this is a good start for an initial sweep.
Hold onto your precious data and do some digital dusting by auditing your apps.
